======================== *** The Daily DX (c) *** ======================== Volume 12 Number 170 September 2, 2008 Editor/Publisher Bernie McClenny, W3UR ______________________________________________________________________ DX News ______________________________________________________________________ N3DV, Dick, reminds us that the SATERN Net meets on 14265 and is handling emergency traffic during hurricanes. "Frequencies to avoid during Gustav are 7280, 7285, 7290, 3850, 3873 and 3935. These frequencies are being used for Gustav emergency communications response by the ARRL Louisiana, Mississippi, and South Texas Sections" says ARRL Mississippi Section Manager W5XX, Malcolm Keown. G0JHC, Neil, reports receiving the ARRL DXCC Yearbook 2007 in today's mail. Start watching your mailboxes for your copy. F8FQX (ex 5T5SN), Nicolas, has been in Congo since August 20th. He'll be there for the next 3-4 years and is working on getting his TN ticket. KE6GFF, John, is heading back to Kabul, Afghanistan where he will be QRV as T6EE sometime between October 5th and 31st, including the CQ WW SSB DX Contest. He'll be running a portable setup which includes an FT-897D, YP3 Super Antenna and long shock cord element Buddipole. Activity will be limited to 14.2 MHz (+/- QRM) due to the license. While there he will pay particular "attention to the Americas, Africa and Middle East". QSL via KE6GFI. July 20, 2008 was the last time a single visible sunspot was reported. Daily Tech and the Drudge Report say "Sun Makes History: First Spotless Month in a Century". You can read about it at http://tinyurl.com/562srq. KM9D, Mike, and KF4TUG, Jan, are stuck on Ndende Island, Temotu Province (H40) due to "an enormous (1040mb) high pressure system NE of New Zealand", reports A35RK, Paul. The two are expected to sail to Vanikolo (OC-163) where they will begin operation as H40MY. Details on this closer to their QRV time. Speaking of A35RK, Paul, he's planning to head stateside at the end of October. He will go back to Tonga the first week of December. Paul says his antennas will come down around October 20th and probably won't be QRV again until Christmas. Between now and late October he plans to be very active. QSL via W7TSQ. K4YT, Karl Renz, tells us he is planning to do the CQ WW Phone from Bangkok, Thailand as HS0ZDG, provided his work doesn't throw in a last minute TDY (temporary duty). During the CQ World Wide CW DX Contest (November 29-30) KP4EE, Joachim, will be putting in an SOAB effort. EA1HFE, Mar, and EC1AE, Oscar, will be on the air from FS - Saint Martin (NA-105) starting September 3rd through 12th. This will be a holiday style operation. They will be using an FT-857D and wire antennas. QSL via EC1AE either direct or via the EA QSL bureau. After more than four months reviewing the applications, effective September 1, 2008 Bosnia and Herzegovina Communications Regulatory Agency granted 54 one-letter suffix licenses for Hams in Bosnia and Herzegovina, says E73Y (ex T93Y, E73TW), Boris Knezovic. That is 46.96% of the total number of applications received (115). A complete list of the issued callsigns is available at the BH CRA WEB Page (unfortunately English version is not yet updated): http://www.rak.ba/hr/freq-mgmt/msword/OdlukaE7naRadiamateriHr.doc. QSL manager K2PF, Ralph, says he is now handling QSL chores for E70A (ex T95A, J28OO) and E73U (ex T94DJ, ex E74DX). AA5UK, Adrian, will be operating from Ibiza, Spain (EU-004) Balearic Islands as EA6/AA5UK. Operation will be holiday style on 160 through 10 meters from October 15-29, mostly on SSB, RTTY, PSK31, SSTV, JT65A and WSPR. Look for satellite activity on AO51. He will be active during the CQ WW SSB, October 25-26. QSL via AA5UK. VK6DXI, Mirek, is currently on a business trip in Algeria until September 11th. Plans are to be QRV with his 7X0DX call in his spare time running simple antennas and 100 watts. Mirek has a Web page at http://www.7x0.dxing.pl/. He has posted logs from his previous operations on his page. "QSO data from the current activity will be uploaded after this activity is over", reports SP5UAF, Tom. QSL via DL4DBR. DJ3KR, Juergen, will be QRV from September 24 to October 20 as BW3/DJ3KR from Chung-Li, Taiwan. QSL DJ3KR. W8AV, Goose, will be in Curacao from September 3-10 and will be signing PJ2/W8AV from the PJ2T Club Station. He plans to be on CW and RTTY and will try to emphasize RTTY on this trip. This is an antenna maintenance trip so Goose will only be on the air as time permits and his operating time may be somewhat limited. Look for PA0VDV, Joeke, to be active as PJ2/PA0VDV from Curacao from October 2-29. QSL via PA0VDV. ______________________________________________________________________ QSN ______________________________________________________________________ EL2DX - LIBERIA - Jim was on 7016 KHz Monday from 0100 to 0400Z working from the East Coast to the West Coast of the US.
