He has located the possible source as a local electricity supply transformer. The hotel manager has promised to call the electric company to have it fixed but John is not optimistic about the result. He is aware some stations are calling that he SHOULD be able to hear, but cannot. He will keep us apprised. John has a quarter wavelength vertical on 80M but there is constant S9 noise. So far he has heard no signals on 80. As he is able to make QSOs he will have the log on line at www.qsl.net/g4irn, though there are also problems with the computer FTP link. TM8MB was scheduled to be on the air this weekend from Mont Blanc's Aiguille du Midi peak at 3842M ASL. This was for the European IARU VHF contest. QSL via F0DIA. Ops were F0DIA, F5RRS, F5SDT, F8NZQ, F5TIL and F4BAH. GB2OWM will be the callsign for Scotland's Orkney Wireless Museum during the Orkney Science Festival until September 11th . Likely times to catch this one are weekdays and Sundays from 1430-1630Z and Saturdays from 10-1230Z. JT100M is an exotic callsign from Mongolia until September 13th during the Altay-Himalaya Transasian off-road expedition. QSL via UA9OBA. J42004Q will be on from SV9, the DXCC entity of Crete, which is "Island on the Air" EU-015, September 8-15, G4OBK, Phil, operating. The operation appears to continue past that date, but Phil will change to the normal portable callsign, SV9/G4OBK. And, he will be on RTTY and CW, maybe a little PSK31 and SSB, 30-10M. QSL to his home call. VP8SGB is on the air from South Georgia (IOTA AN-007). This one is at the British Antarctic Survey Base on Bird Island. He likes 20M SSB, operating typically for an hour at a time, some time between 1730-20Z. Look him Sunday mornings between 10-12Z, for an hour of operating. QSL via GM0HCQ and look for more info on http://www.gm0hcq.com. TM4V is a special callsign from Eperlecques, France, through September 7th, all HF bands, CW and SSB. QSL via F5LHP. RA3AMG, Denis Skobelkin, says he finally has the Finnish fax with landing permission - and already had all the required permissions from the Russian side - for the next R1MVI, M-V Island, operation. This one is set for September 10-12 with operators RA3CQ, RA3AMG, RX3BP, UA1CKC, RA1CD, ES4RZ, RZ1AK and OH3GBR. R1MVI will be on 160-10M with special attention paid to the 160, 80, 40, 12 and 10M bands. They will be on SSB, CW, RTTY and PSK. The gear: FT-1000MP, MKV Field and FT-990, an ACOM-1000 and an ACOM-2000A amp, a TH3MK4 tribander, and two G5RV wire antennas. Denis says, "The antennas are not very good, but we will try to be good operators." 7Q7CE, operator Ely, IN3VZE, still plans his Malawi operation for September 9-23. Now his friend IN3BHR, Renato, will be joining him. Renato's callsign will be 7Q7RB. They will operate from Resort Club Makokola on the southwest shore of Lake Malawi, 160-10M SSB. QSL each via his home callsign. ZS6WPX, Andre, iw going to Mozambique for business October 28-November 1. As his business schedule allows, he will get on the air as C91Z, mostly SSB but with a little CW and RTTY. XYL Magda will be along, operating as C91Y, mostly phone, as time permits. Andre plans to be in the CQWW SSB contest October 30-31, single operator high power. QSL direct only - via ZS6WPX. Andre also notes that W4GMY and AA4NN will be on from C9 in the CQWW CW. CT1EFV, Jorge, will be on S9, Sao Tome, as part of a humanitarian mission. Jorge is doing HF communications for the group. His callsign will be S92LZ. The dates: September 19-26 if conditions and logistics allow. Jorge will be equipped with a Kenwood TS-50S mounted in his Land Rover, with G5RV antennas (that presumably are too big to be part of the mobile operation, if any.) The humanitarian operation is called "Latitude Zero Equatorial Challenge 2004." Jorge's group will be delivering medicines to the AMI mission, helping with a Portuguese school, delivering 6,000 books to the Sao Tome library, and opening roads to remote parts of the island. QSL via CT1EFV's QRZ.com address. PA5M, Peter, has finished his 5U7DX, Niger, operation and is now in Mali until September 16th, possibly until the 22nd. He is traveling around the country and, when active, will be using the callsign TZ7M. His on-line logs are at http://www.pa7fm.nl. Peter is also scheduled to be part of the Peter I Island expectation early next year. ______________________________________________________________________ Silent Key ______________________________________________________________________ We have word that VP2VE, Lee Reisenweber, has passed away. The word comes via WA2NHA, who received an inquiry from a U.S. Marine Corps buddy, Dan Borgman, of Lee's. Mr. Borgman says, "If you were unaware of Lee's death, he died 21 February 2004 at San Juan VA Medical Center, San Juan, Puerto Rico and is interred at Puerto Rico National Cemetery, Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Lee was a very avid CW operator. Mr. Borgman is looking for photographs of Lee and other information about him for a grandson who did not know him, saying, "If you have information you would share concerning what you know of Lee - and if you have any pictures of Lee or his circumstances, it would be nice if you could correspond with us. You can of course email me at the return address here. You can send scanned pictures via email also. If you have prints or any other objects you would like to send, please mail to: D. L. Borgman, 11111 NE 105th Avenue, Archer, Florida, 32618, USA. If you know of others who can help us please pass the word along." ______________________________________________________________________ QSN ______________________________________________________________________ 3DA0RN - SWAZILAND - 10114 at 2310Z, 10108 at 1830Z, 3510 at 2245Z and 21Z, 7004 at 2150Z, 14009 at 1920Z, 18076 at 1620Z. 8Q7JA - MALDIVES - 30 METERS and 14212 at 1750Z about a week ago. 9U6PM - BURUNDI - Pierre-Marie was on 18140 at 1010Z, 21315 from 0840- 0930Z, 18142 at 11Z and 21242 at 10Z.
