. ===================== *** The Daily DX *** ===================== Volume 1 Number 95 July 29, 1997 Edited by Bernie McClenny, W3UR ____________________________________________________________________ Headlines ____________________________________________________________________ Jack, VK2GJH, is now back on Fiji as 3D2JH after returning from Banaba. He made just over 1600 QSOs mostly on 20 meters. Jack said conditions were not very good. He will stay on Fiji until Sunday. From there he will head back home to Australia. QSL via VK2GJH or VK2DEJ. The DX Newsletter reports that Sigi, DJ4IJ will be active from Benin as TY1IJ again. He will be active for 6 weeks starting around 30 July and will be mostly on 160, 80 and 30 meters. He will also be on 18140 during weekends when he has schedules. Jean-Marc, F5RQQ, the QSL manager for FT5ZG told DXPress that although FT5ZG has an amplifier he is unable to use it because the 3-500Z tube is broken. He hopes to be able to get a new on one of the next ships. If anyone can help please contact Jean-Marc Vigier, F5RQQ, 4 Impasse des Lys, 63800 Gournon d'Acergne, France. Bill Horner, VK4FW, says the Willis Island and Holmes Reef operations are well under way and the operators will leave mainland Australia at 14:00Z on 9 September. They will make a short stop just off Holmes Reef not to operate but check out a landing which will take place after the Willis Island part of the trip. From there they will head to Willis South Islet to drop off some items with the Meteorology Bureau staff and take a few pictures. Plans are to leave South Willis Islet at 21:00Z on 10 September and head for North Willis Islet which is where they will operate from. Once they arrive it should take between 5 and 7 hours to unload and setup the first station. The goal is to have the first station on the air by 05:30Z on 11 September. Look for two separate callsigns to be used on Willis Island, one for the ladies and one for the guys. The callsigns have not yet been released but should be around 1 September. The operators will be active on SSB, CW and RTTY on 10 through 160 meters until late 21 September or early 22 September. From Willis they will head to Holmes Reef which is a new IOTA and has not been assigned a reference number todate. A separate callsign has been requested for Holmes Reef. The DXCC status for Holmes Reef is Australia. Those wishing to contribute may send donations to Ocean DX Group Willis Effort, P. O. Box 929, Gympie 4570, Australia. QSL will go via VK4FW. ____________________________________________________________________ QSN ____________________________________________________________________ EM1HO - ANTARCTICA - Paul can be found most days on 80 meters SSB around 02:00 to 04:00Z and 11:00 to 14:00Z.
