. ===================== *** The Daily DX *** ===================== Volume 1 Number 88 July 18, 1997 Edited by Bernie McClenny, W3UR ____________________________________________________________________ Headlines ____________________________________________________________________ Jim Smith, VK9NS, reports that Jack, VK2GJH, is still on Tarawa as T30JH. He will either leave around 08:00Z or 20:00Z today for Banaba. The first catamaran has already left with 16 members of the Banaba Heritage Society. Jack will be on the second catamaran with his equipment. The travel time is between 36 and 40 hours. With this in mind Jack should be on Banaba some time either around 16:00Z on Saturday or around 04:00Z on Sunday. Gary Shirk, S92AT, has made it back safely to Sao Tome after spending a few weeks stateside. While here in the Washington, D.C. area he called on the phone to give some information about his set up on the island. He has a TS440, 570D and a Scout 555 for rigs. An Ameritron amplifier gives him about 500 watts out. For antennae he is using an A4S and a R7. He plans to put up an inverted vee on 160 meters soon. Many people have asked about 80 meters. He says he does not currently have an antenna for that band but hopes to in the near future. Gary will be active on both CW and SSB. QSL via NJ2D Larry, WB6VGI, will be active from Guantanamo Bay starting around 20 August. He plans to be active for about 30 days as KG4ML. He will be operating on all bands on CW and SSB. As a reminder The Daily DX goes out 5 days a week, 50 weeks a year. My family and I will be vacationing from 4 to 8 August, therefore The Daily DX will not be available that week. I will be checking my e-mails and if a major DX operation is announced I can put a special edition together. ____________________________________________________________________ QSN ____________________________________________________________________ 3A2HB - MONACO - Lou was working JA's on 14234 around 22:10Z. 9M2TO - WEST MALAYSIA - Was found on 10103 around 13:00Z working JA's and west coast US stations.
