. ===================== *** The Daily DX *** ===================== Volume 1 Number 79 July 7, 1997 Edited by Bernie McClenny, W3UR ____________________________________________________________________ Headlines ____________________________________________________________________ Bob Schenck, N2OO, reports the Hillview Gardens Resort in Keningau, East Malaysia will be using the call 9M6HIL to commemorate the Grand Opening of this new resort. The special event station will be active from 5 to 24 August and operators include Bob, N2OO/9M6OO, Bob N0RN, Alan, VS6KY/ZL1TX and a number of local 9M6's. After this special event the call 9M6A will be used at the Hillview Gardens Resort. A web page with many pictures and details for this resort can be found at http://www.idis.com/alfons/hill.html which is run by Alfons, 9M6MU, and Doris, 9M6DU. Sponsors to date for this DXpedition are IDXF, Cushcraft and Log-EQF. QSL 9M6HIL and 9M6A both via N2OO. Bob, N2OO, also announced he and Bob Hamilton, N0RN (ex K0IYF), will take a side trip to Layang-Layang Island located in the Spratly's from 14 to 18 August. Bob says "Some of you Old Timers might remember the 1S1DX DXpedition in 1979! Well, N2OO is finally gonna make it to Spratly! It only took 18 years!" They plan to be active with two stations and will be on 30, 20, 17 and 15 meters CW and SSB. Cushcraft has provided beam antennae for this operation. The callsign has not been issued as of yet however permission has been granted. If you hear Alfons, 9M6MU, or Doris, 9M6DU, on the air make sure you thank them for helping the two Bob's get on the air from the Spratly's. Art, N2AU, reports that Chris, ZD7HI, does not operate CW nor does he have a key or keyer. Chris also is not active on 80 or 160 meters. Recently a station signing ZD7HI has been on CW, 80 and 160 meters. Art also went on to say that Gilbert, ZD7BG, is the only station active on CW from St Helena. Gilbert operates on 10 through 80 meters. Mike, VE9AA, one of the three operators of the recent CY9AA operation from Saint Paul Island reported they made approximately 12,000 QSOs on 6 through 160 meters. About 275 were made on the 6 meter band. Anyone who worked CY9AA should QSL via the following address as the callbook address is incorrect. Michael Smith, VE9AA, 271 Smith Rd, Waterville, NB, E2V 3V6 Canada. John, W2GD, tells The Daily DX he will be operating from the island of Aruba from 9 to 13 July. His primary goal is to operate in the IARU Contest on 12 and 13 July, as he will be Single op all band CW. QSL via N2MM. Yet another group will head to Saint Paul Island from 12 to 22 September using the callsign CY9R. Lou, VA3RU, reported to The Daily DX that he along with VA3EU and HA5IJ plan to be active on 2 through 160 meters. They plan to concentrate on CW looking for Asia. Activity is also planned for the SAC and WAE contests. Jun, JH4RHF, says there is a 99% chance he will take his RTTY equipment on his upcoming trip to Lord Howe Island. A group of South Americans have been active every night usually on 1844 just after 00:00Z. Look for CX2CB, CX7OV, LU4UAD, PY2BW, PY2DP, PY3CEJ and others. Also for you CW buffs check around 1832 for PY5CC and PY2BW. Now is the best time for working South Americans on 160 meters as it is their Winter time. Tom, K5RC, says "Within the last six weeks, a new regime has taken over operations of 4U1UN." The new group plans to make sure the station is on the air more often and active in most contests. They are currently seeking a permanent station location in the United Nations building as they are now sharing a room. This means they have to setup and take down the station each time they plan to operate. They recently mailed a substantial number of QSL's to the outgoing bureau. QSL for all QSOs after April 1, 1997 via W6TER. ___________________________________________________________________ QSN ____________________________________________________________________ 3W4EZD - VIETNAM - Hiroo finished up his one week on new IOTA AS-128 on Friday 4 July.
