. ==================== *** The Daily DX *** ==================== Volume 1 Number 51 May 28, 1997 Edited by Bernie McClenny, W3UR ________________________________________________________________________ Headlines ________________________________________________________________________ Jari, OH2BU/OH7RF, reports the Malyj Vysotskij DXpedition scheduled for June 5th to June 16th had originally asked for permission to operate on 6 meters, this jeopardized the license so they canceled their request for 6 meters. Now they have permission and license in hand and they have requested again for permission to operate on 6 meters. Jari told The Daily DX, "The main problem is that one of the biggest Russian Naval bases is just 200 meters away from the southern tip of Malyj Vysotskij and 6 meters is for army use." The DX News Sheet reports Jack, VK2GJH, will be on Banaba Island (OC-018) July 13th and will be active on 6 through 80 meters running 100 watts from an IC736. QSL via VK2GJH, P.O. Box 299, Ryde NSW 2112, Australia. ________________________________________________________________________ 9N1ARB Profile ________________________________________________________________________ Dick Wurster, 9N1ARB, left Kathmandu, Nepal on Thursday, May 22nd and is going to Bangkok, Beijing and Hong Kong. He plans to visit Rudolf, HS0/DL1ZAV, Chen Ping, BA1HAM and Ray, VR2FN. This is a business trip, however he may show up from one of these stations. Dick was first licensed in Lima, Peru in 1973 as OA4ARB. He is the head of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in Nepal. He has worked in international agricultural development overseas for the last 33 years. Dick is able to get on SSB and Pactor on 15, 20 and 40 meters. He is running an ICOM 751 into a KLM 34A. Amplifiers are not allowed in Nepal so he is only able to run 100 watts which is the maximum power output. Dick says he can be found daily on 14215 around 01:30Z along with Denver, 4S7DA. Another good place to look is between 14190 and 14200. At the current time there is not a national society, however there are a few Nepali hams. Dick says there are about 6 hams in Nepal of which only 4 are active. Dick said he had lunch at his house with Murray, VE5SM/9N1SM, on Thursday, May 22nd, a hospitality he extends to all visiting hams.
