This will be the 7th operation from Malyj Vysotskij Island and will be an all-band, all-mode operation. Plans are to have at least three complete stations on the air running 24 hours a day. Two callsigns (OH5AB/MVI and R1MVI) will be used to show the uniqueness of this DXCC country which is located in the Gulf of Finland in the Baltic Sea. The island is a Russian Territory which was leased to Finland in 1962. Malyj Vysotskij has not been on for nearly two years and currently ranks # 91st on the ARRL's most wanted list. The island is about one mile long and is uninhabited. For those who chase the Islands on the air (IOTA) award this is EU-117. Orvo Arkko, OH5NE Muukko FIN-53400 Lappeenranta FINLAND Luke, PT7WA, reports the PT7BCN beacon is now back on the air and can be found on 50.078 and 28.213 MHz. Martin, G3USF, who is the IARU Region I Beacon Co-ordinator reports another beacon has joined the worldwide International Beacon Project HF network. VK6RBP - located 28 kilometers south east of Perth in Western Australia - transmits for ten seconds in turn on 14100, 18110, 21150, 24930 and 28200 kHz on a three minute cycle, with powers stepping down from 100 watts to 100 mili-watts. Also, the Japanese beacon JA2IGY is now fully operational on the same five frequencies. Fourteen of the network's planned beacons are now on the air. Hans, OH2EA, reports the Market Reef operation by OH2KI and OH1VR for this past weekend was canceled due to transportation & weather problems. Thanks to the PAR (Development) program of IARU Region III, the BARL (Bangladesh Amateur Radio League) Club station S21HQ has been on the air. This club station is located at 69, Satmasjid Road, Dhanmondi, Dhaka. The Bangladesh authorities have no problems issuing temporary licenses good for seven days. The Bangladesh Net meets daily on 7065 at 0200Z. Said, S21A, is sometimes the SEANET Net Control Station on 14320 at 1200 GMT. Saif D Shahid, S21A GPOB 3512 Dhaka 1209 Bangladesh Chris, ZS8IR, left Marion Island on Friday, May 23rd around 07:00Z. He is currently on the MV SA Agulhas and should be back in Cape Town on Thursday, May 29th. Chris made about 18,000 QSOs of which over 300 were on 160 meters, 600 were on 80 meters and about 600 were on RTTY. Chris said "Due to certain regulatory changes in the Environmental affairs department, I don't know when there will be any amateur radio activity from Marion again." Chris was the Medical Officer for the 53rd Marion Island Relief Expedition. He plans to go to the Northern Cook Island in September with The Date Line DX Association. He will be active on all bands when his work load will allow. He will be running 100 watts and a folded multiband dipole. He will be on SSB until he can find a key. QSL to EA4BB via the bureau or direct. ____________________________________________________________________________ QSN ____________________________________________________________________________ 15 Meters - Several JA's reported a longpath opening to South America on 15 meters on Sunday from about 15:00 to 15:30Z. This band also opened up to VK from the east coast of the US today around 03:15Z. 3V8BB - Tunisia - Was very active this weekend in the CQ WPX CW contest mostly on 40, 20 and 15 meters. QSL via YT1AD. 5A1A - Libya - Came up on Saturday around 17:40Z on 21285. This club station can usually be found most days on 15 meters between 21200 and 21300 from 12:00 to 18:00Z. XU2A - Kampuchea - Hiroo, JA2EZD, was active both Saturday and Sunday on 20 meters SSB. Try between 14185 and 14200 starting around 12:00Z. XU3FLT - Kampuchea - This station shows up occasionally working JA's on either 15 or 20 meters SSB. QSL via JN3FLT. XV7TH - Vietnam - Thorsten, came up on 14195 on Sunday for a few minutes just before 14:00Z.
