. ===================== *** The Daily DX *** ===================== Volume 1 Number 47 May 22, 1997 Edited by Bernie McClenny, W3UR ----------------------------------------------------------------- Headlines ----------------------------------------------------------------- Peter, 9M8CC, is currently in Sarawak and will be active until June 5th. He is often QRV during his evenings (12:00Z). Some frequencies to look for him are: 14260, 21260, 3795, and when the band opens 28460. QSL via Peter's home call PB0ALB. The Daily DX spoke with Dave, WJ2O, at the Dayton Hamvention. Dave reported he will be operating in the IARU contest as XE1/WJ2O in Mexico. He will be active from July 10th to July 16th. Paddy, S79MAD, reports he has asked the Seychelles authorities twice for operating privileges on the 80 meter band and has been denied both times. He has also asked for just one frequency on the band however that did not work either. The government is using the 80 meter band for inter island communications. Paddy reports "The head of the local telecom section of the government said they should be closing the 80 meter inter island communications, but no idea as to how soon." Paddy doubts he will see this happen as he will be leaving the island in late July or August. He plans to operate in the IOTA Contest (July 24-25) and will ask one last time. Aki, JA5DQH/KH7A, will be active from Saipan as KH0AA from May 22nd to May 27th. He will be participating in the CQ WW WPX CW contest this weekend. Aki will run 500 watts and use a dipole and vertical antennas on the rooftop of the hotel. When he is not operating the contest he plans to be active on the WARC bands and 160 meters. Look for him on 1826(+-) at his sunset (08:40Z) or later. QSL via JA5DQH. Hans, OH2EA, reports that Seppo, OH1VR, and Jorma, OH2KI, will be active from May 23rd to May 25th as OJ0/OH2KI and OH0MMM from Market Reef. Don't be fooled with the OH0MMM callsign as normally OH0 is Aland Islands. Look for them mostly on 6, 40 and the WARC Bands. There will be no RTTY during this trip. QSL OJ0/OH2KI via OH2KI. QSL OH0MMM via OH1VR direct only as Seppo is not a member of the SARL bureau. Karl, K4YT/DL4YT, tells The Daily DX he made over 900 QSO's as K4YT/EY8 in Tajikistan using 100 watts and a 5 element Log Periodic on top of a six story hotel. He was also active from Tashkent, Uzbekistan as UK4YT however he was only able to make a few QSOs. Karl mentioned that Fedor, UK9AA, is the first station from Uzbekistan to operate on SSTV and enjoys it very much. Fedor's son Eugene is active as UK8AXA. QSL both K4YT/EY8 and UK4YT to Karl's brother W2TK. Zoli, HA5PP, reports he will start working in Yemen on June 27th. He does not have his license yet and says he will receive it when he gets to Yemen. He says he will be using 7O/HA5PP. Zoli says he will be located near Aden close to the sea. Plans are to be on the air a month or so after he gets there. QSL information is HA5YPP, P.O. Box 701 / 243, 1399 Budapest, Hungary. ----------------------------------------------------------------- QSN ----------------------------------------------------------------- CX3CE - Uruguay - Gus was on 1831 at 03:10Z working Europe. 5A1A - Libya - Can be found most days on 15 meters.
