. ===================== *** The Daily DX *** ===================== Volume 1 Number 45 May 20, 1997 Edited by Bernie McClenny, W3UR ----------------------------------------------------------------- Headlines ----------------------------------------------------------------- The Dateline DX Association is pleased to announce the addition of Chris, ZS8IR, as the 6th operator on the ZK1 team going to North Cook in September. Chris is currently finalizing his tour on Marion Island and will be leaving for ZS this Friday. INDEXA, Heil, Astron and Patcomm have been added to the list of sponsors providing equipment and financial assistance. Chris, ZS8IR, is still active however he has not been making the normal amount of QSOs that he has been. Chris, ZS6EZ said "The loaded dipole provides lousy performance, and the linear amplifier they sent down has died." Chris also mentioned that ZS8IR's own amplifier has already been loaded onto the ship. For those of you who may not know Chris has been one of the most active ZS8 stations in recent years. Chris, ZS6EZ, says he hasn't seen final logs, but it's close to 20,000 QSO's. Amateur Radio Stations from Prince Edward Island will be using special prefix XN0 in place of the normal VY2 from May 29th to September 1st to commemorate the opening of the new Confederation Bridge. The bridge will open on June 1st and will be the worlds longest over ice covered water. This bridge will be 12.9 kilometers long and 60 meters at the highest point. This will link Prince Edward Island with the mainland of Canada. In conjuction with the XN0 special prefix two other special calls have been granted to correspond with the opening of the Confederation Bridge and the last crossing of the Marine Atlantic ferries. From May 30th to June 1st the call VY2CB (Victor Yankee Two Confederation Bridge) from the Confederation Bridge site and on May 31st VY2LC (Victor Yankee Two Last Crossing) from aboard one of the ferries making the last crossing of the Northumberland Strait. Hiro, JA2EZD, is currently in Kampuchea and is expected until aroundMay 31st. He will use the call XU2A on all bands including 160, 80, 6 and the WARC bands. QSL to Hiroo Yonezuka, P. O.
