. ===================== *** The Daily DX *** ===================== Volume 1 Number 33 May 2, 1997 Edited by Bernie McClenny, W3UR ----------------------------------------------------------------- Headlines ----------------------------------------------------------------- Julio, EA5XX, reports the upcoming 3C0DXpedition to Annobon Island is right on schedule. The team of spanish operators will all meet and leave Madrid on May 19th. They will fly to Paris where they will meet up with Mac, W9EVI, and Olli, OH0XX and continue on to Libreville, Gabon (TR8). Once in Libreville the operators and all of their equipment will be loaded on to two CASA-200 airplanes. From Libreville they will depart for their final leg of the trip to the very small airport on Annabon Island. On May 20th the plan is to set up 4 stations, two for 10, 15 and 20 meters, one for 40, 80 and 160 meters and the last station for the WARC bands, RTTY, 6 meters and RS Satellites. Operators will be logging all QSOs on laptop computers using either K1EA's CT or WF1B's RTTY logging programs. 160 meters enthusiasts will be happy to know that the famous Battle Creek Special and beverages will be included in the antenna arsonal. They will also be running a one kilowatt amplifier. Mac, W9EVI, will be one of the low band operators. QSL via EA4URE ----------------------------------------------------------------- BS7H ----------------------------------------------------------------- Tim, N4GN, reports the BS7H operators have logged roughly 7,000 QSOs using the three HF stations setup on Scarborough Reef. He also stated that the signals from BS7H to stations using the auroral and polar paths have been weak. The K index at 21:00Z yesterday was 4 and at 00:00 and 03:00Z today was 5. A minor geomagnetic storm is in process and conditions are not expected to get better today. Tim also said "The six-meter beacon is off the air due to a technical problem which they hope to have resolved soon." The following was reported about yesterdays BS7H activities. From the reports it does look as if they are on 3 bands simultaneously. The chart below may be used as a possible guide for the next 24 hours of operation: GMT Bands on the air GMT Bands on the air ---------------------- ----------------------- 00 20 12 20 15 01 20 13 20 02 20 14 20 17 03 no reports this hour 15 20 04 17 15 10 16 20 (CW and SSB at same time) 05 20 15 17 20 (CW and SSB at same time) 06 20 15 10 18 no reports this hour 07 20 15 10 19 40 08 20 15 20 40 09 20 15 10 21 40 20 10 20 15 22 40 11 20 15 23 40 For our east coast and central North American readers the best times were 10:00 to 13:00Z on 20 meters. Several of the bigger stations on the east coast of North America reported a possible opening on 20 meters as the signals from BS7H slightly peaked out of the noise from 08:00 to 09:00Z. This may have been a one day thing, however Tim has been informed. More stations from the east coast and central North America reported working BS7H on CW than SSB. ----------------------------------------------------------------- QSN ----------------------------------------------------------------- 3V8BB - Tunisia - Was found on 14195 around 09:00Z and later at 11:00Z he was on 7055.
