. ===================== *** The Daily DX *** ===================== Volume 1 Number 10 March 28, 1997 Edited by Bernie McClenny, W3UR ----------------------------------------------------------------- Headlines ----------------------------------------------------------------- Ari, OH1EH, reports that he will be on from OH0AM this weekend. He hopes the antennas will still be up as Aland Islands has had some serious snowstorms in the past two days. Ari said "If everything is OK I will be single-op assisted", if not, Ari will go single band. QSL via OH2BAD. Koji, JM1CAX/ZS6CAX, says he and Tad, JH7PKU/AA3JA, are on their way to Swaziland where they will be signing 3DA5A in the WPX SSB contest this weekend. This is the first time the 3DA5 prefix has been used. They will be doing a multi-single. They hope to be on this morning, warming up before the contest using 3DA/AA3JA and 3DA0NX. They will also be on after the contest. QSL information listed below in the QSL section. Rainer, DL5HCD, says that Andrea, DL3ABL, will be on this weekend in the WPX SSB contest as a single op on all bands using the call C6AJR from IOTA NA001. Andrea will be running barefoot with an IC706 and a dipole. QSL information listed below in QSL section. The Japan Palau Crazy Contest Club will be multi-single in the WPX SSB contest this weekend signing T88X. Operators include JA6VZB, JE6DND and JJ6TYG. They will be on all bands except 160 meters. They plan to be on before the contest signing T88JA on WARC bands and RTTY. IZ9Z will be on this weekend in the WPX contest from Lampedusa Islands. This island is located in CQ Zone 33, in the northern part of Africa. The operators all belong to Marconi Contest Club and include IK2SGC, I4UFH, IV3TAN, IT9GSF, and IT9EQO. Expect a big signal out of this group on 80 and 160 meters as they will be spending lots of time here for the double pointers. Those using contest software should make sure IZ9Z comes up as Africa and not Europe. YM3DL will also be on this weekend in the WPX contest from Izmir, Turkey. The operators will be Thomas, DL3FDU, Felix, DL8OBC, and Patrick, DL4VBP. They will be operating from the QTH of Mustafa, TA3B. Before and after the contest they will be on all bands (maybe 160) including WARC. They will put special emphasis on 30, 40 and 80 meters. NH7A will be in the WPX contest this weekend operating all bands. Don't get this confused with Kure Island, it's really Hawaii. All Kure Island calls start with AH7K, KH7K, NH7K or WH7K. Be on the look out for S0RASD, Western Sahara, this weekend in the WPX contest. Operators from the LYNX DX Group have not shown up yet, but are expected. ----------------------------------------------------------------- QSN ----------------------------------------------------------------- 9M6TPR - Spratlys - Paul and Charlotte were on again yesterday. Starting out on 7007 around 10:50Z. They then showed up on 10103 at about 11:20Z. Then back to 40 meters until 13:40, when they moved to 80 meters. They showed up on 14029 just before 14:00Z and stayed until 17:00. That's when they went to 10104. Around 19:00Z they went to 40 meters. Conditions to east coast US were not good at all. They seem to only be operating CW. QSL via KQ1F. A41LZ - Oman - Shows up daily on 17 meters. He was on 18140 from 11:40 to just after 14:00Z. Best time for east coast US was the last few minutes he was on. A92GD - Bahrain - Bob reports that his 160 meter antenna has been taken down. He has been spending some time on 30 meters. The only frequency he can operate on is 10140. Best times seem to be 02:30 and 21:00Z. QSL via K1SE. EK6GC - Armenia - Bob shows up about 3 days a week on 10102 around 21 to 22Z. JD1AMA - Ogasawara - Seems as if Aki wants to work those who still need him before he leaves the island. He was found on 14014 from 22:00 to 00:00Z. East coast stations should look for Aki today at 11:00 to 12:00Z on 3800, JA1JRK maybe on frequency also. Europeans should try 20:00 to 21:15Z on 7050, JA5AQC or IK7JTF will be there also. JX7DFA - Jan Mayen - Per was on 7004 between 19 and 20Z. Remember to look for him this weekend on 1824.5 on CW. QSL via LA7DFA.
