. ===================== *** The Daily DX *** ===================== Volume 1 Number 2 March 18, 1997 Edited by Bernie McClenny, W3UR ----------------------------------------------------------------- Headlines ----------------------------------------------------------------- Charlotte, KQ1F, and Paul, K1XM, are planing a scuba and ham radio expedition to East Malaysia and the Spratly Islands as 9M6TCR and 9M6TPR. The first stop will be on Borneo, IOTA OC-088 until March 21 st. They will then head to Layang Layang, which is located in the Spratly chain. This is IOTA AS051 and is situated in CQ zone 26. They will be active until March 28 th. They may show up for one day, on the 28 th, back at Borneo. March 29 th to April 4 they will be on Sipadan, which is another Island (OC133) belonging to East Malaysia. They will be active mostly on 40, 20 and 30 meters. They will have 80 meter CW capabilities, however they won't be very loud. If they send 599 26, it means they are in the Spratly's. XZ1N QSLs have been printed and are now being labeled to be mailed out any day now. It is a nice photo QSL card. This operation took place between November 16 th and the 25 th 1996. QSL via W1XT, Bob Myers, PO Box 17108, Fountain Hills, AZ 85269- 7108, USA. Yuu-san, JA3IG, will be active as K1NT/KH4, Midway Island from April 16-23. He plans to operate 15-40 meters. QSL via JA3IG. Hrane, YT1AD, will again be active as 3V8BB from March 26 th to March 31 st. He will be on all bands except WARC, both SSB and CW. Hrane will also be taking part in the CQ WPX SSB contest. QSL via his home call. Fred, K3ZO, reports that 7039 is a great spot for 3 different beacons. The S beacon is located in Archanglesk (UA1O), the C beacon is in Moscow (UA3A) and the F beacon is in Vladivostok (UA0L). These are great indicators as to what shape the 40 meter band is in. Another beacon V is located just outside of Tashkent and transmits on 7002. All of these letter beacons use CW to id. Today around 13:00 Z, East Coast US stations were reporting broadcast interference on 14240. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Today's Propagation Forecast ----------------------------------------------------------------- Monday WWV #s Forecast Hour SolarFlux A K Past 24 hours/Next 24 hours ---- --------- - - ------------------------------- (03) 3/18 75 4 3 VeryLow/Quiet-Unset:VeryLow/Quiet-Unset (00) 75 4 1 VERY LOW/QUIET:VERY LOW/QUIET-UNSET (21) 3/17 75 5 1 VERY LOW/QUIET;VERY LOW/QUIET-UNSET (18) 76 7 1 VERY LOW; QUIET TO UNSETTLED (15) 76 7 2 VL-Q () VL-Q/U (12) 76 9 2 VERY LOW/QUIET TO UNSETTLED (09) 76 9 2 Sun.:Quiet, Gmf.:Quiet.
